Sunrise Kiwanis Members Sort Thousands of Books for "Just One Book" - 02/19/2018

Port Charlotte Sunrise Kiwanis Club members  recently met and sorted by grade level, label, and boxed up thousands of donated books. They will soon distribute 57 boxes to groups and organizations around Charlotte County to distribute to needy kids. The Children's Book Collection called "JUST BOOKS" was a joint project by the PC Sunrise Kiwanis, Key Club and Builders Clubs in the Port Charlotte area.

Lynn Dorler from the Boys & Girls Club gave our members an update of all the meaningful programs the organization tackles. Serving over 300 children a day, the mission of the Boys & Girls Club is one that Kiwanis embraces. Presenting Lynn with a certificate and book that will be given to a local reading program are Sunrise members Carp Bob Carpenter and Eric DeYoung.

Joe Tiseo, County Commissioner, District 5, Charlotte County, was the special speaker at the Thursday morning meeting of the Port Charlotte Sunrise Kiwanis. Mr. Tiseo spoke on the growth of Charlotte County and several projects planned for Murdock Village and Charlotte Harbor.

The 2017 "Shoes For Kids" Project Report

             The Kiwanis Shoes for Kids Project purpose is to provide new tennis shoes to any student in the Charlotte County Public School System which needs them to begin the new school year or throughout the academic year.   During the 2017 summer drive, we were able to meet our goal number of 5000 new pairs of schools for the start of the school year; we collected over 7,500 pairs of new sneakers.  As of this writing we have placed in excess of,  6,400 new pairs of sneakers during the 2017-18 academic year.
